THE Parliamentary Standing Committee on International Relations, Defence and Security paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency Zhao Weiping, the Chinese Ambassador to the Republic of Namibia.
Ambassador Zhao welcomed the delegation and expressed his appreciation for the visit. Committee Chairperson Hon. James Uerikua provided an overview of the Committee’s mandate and reflected on the long-standing cordial relations between Namibia and China, which date back to Namibia’s liberation struggle.

Discussions centred on addressing legislative bottlenecks that could hinder trade between the two countries, as well as exploring ways for the Namibian and Chinese legislative bodies to enhance coordination in foreign relations, safety, and security. Both sides emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration in capacity development, training, and education to strengthen work in these sectors.
Ambassador Zhao commended the Committee for its role in shaping national legislation on foreign affairs, defence, and security. He highlighted the importance of maintaining a close working relationship between the Namibian Parliament and the Chinese government and legislature to ensure continuity and growth in bilateral relations.
The Ambassador further added that Namibia and China are implementing the Beijing FOCAC (Forum on China-Africa Cooperation) Resolutions in line with bilateral agreements. He underscored China’s commitment as a development partner and called for the revival of parliamentary exchanges between the two nations to deepen cooperation.
