THE much-anticipated 18th Annual Helao Nafidi Exhibition and Trade Expo is set to kick off this Friday, 31 October, and will run until Sunday, 2 November.
Organisers have confirmed that the duration of the event was shortened this year to help cut down on costs, but enthusiasm among exhibitors and visitors remains high.
The highlight of the event will be the official opening ceremony, which will be officiated by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Saturday, 1 November, at 09:00.
Helao Nafidi Mayor Darius Shaalukeni said preparations are well underway and expressed confidence that the event will be a success.
“When the council approved our budget this year, we were very cautious about spending. As chairperson of the council, I ensured that our expenditures reflect the real needs of our people,” Shaalukeni explained. “We did not want to cancel the expo entirely, so we made a few adjustments — reduced the number of days and reallocated funds — to make sure it still takes place.”
He added that preparations are progressing smoothly and encouraged residents and traders to participate.
“We still have space for a few more traders, and those interested should register before the first day,” he said. “The expo will feature several performances, including artists such as King Tee Dee, Young-T, and Exit. We want people not only to trade but also to come and enjoy the music while supporting our local talent.”
Shaalukeni emphasised the importance of community attendance at the official opening ceremony, urging residents of Helao Nafidi, the Ohangwena Region, and beyond to attend.
“It is very exciting to have the President with us. We call on parents to bring their children — these are the future leaders — so they can meet and hear from the President. Her message will inspire hope and resilience as we look at where we are and where we are going as a nation,” he said.
