UPDATE: Max Maolusi (27), a Namibian artist also known as Max Junior, has been remanded in custody after making his first appearance at the Katutura Magistrate’s Court for assaulting his pregnant partner. While the musician sought fame through his music, he gained notoriety after pictures went viral showing him assaulting his girlfriend. He was subsequently charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, read in conjunction with the provisions of the Combating of Domestic Violence Act. Maolusi was arrested in the evening hours of Saturday in Katutura Central while making a livestream at his home, during which he claimed he acted in self-defense. According to the victim’s family, this is not the first time Maolusi has assaulted his girlfriend, as they said the victim previously suffered a miscarriage in 2024 after allegedly being assaulted by Maolusi. The matter was postponed to 24 October 2025. The victim in the matter opposed the accused receiving bail, saying that she fears for her life, while the State also opposed the granting of bail due to the seriousness of the case, public interest, and fears that the accused may interfere with investigations.
