Cops impound car, recover stolen items but suspects still at large

Staff Reporter

A RENTAL car with fake number plates, allegedly used in multiple crimes in Walvis Bay, was impounded by police after it was found parked at a shack along with several stolen items. A video circulating on social media reportedly shows the smash-and-grab in action, shedding light on the incidents.

The breakthrough came following the latest incident involving the impounded vehicle, which occurred on Theo Ben Gurirab Street on Friday.

It is alleged that the suspects smashed the door window glass of a vehicle, opened the door, and stole a variety of items and cash together valued at N$91,000.

When police officers found the suspects’ getaway car, they searched the shack where it was parked and discovered items stolen in a recent robbery incident in which the suspects — using the same getaway car — attacked an elderly woman in her residence on Monday.

The 40-year-old owner of the shack was apprehended and will appear before court on Monday.

The other suspects are known to the police but are still at large.
