Hacking was an internal error, NSFAF says

Staff Reporter

THE Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) has said that the publishing of certain student information on their official website was not the result of ransomware or any unauthorised access to NSFAF systems, but rather an internal error.

This was stated by the student funding government body in a press statement, in which it explained that an advert posted on their website was mistakenly accompanied by an attachment containing incorrect student information.

“The file was promptly removed upon detection of the error, and immediate corrective measures were taken. Protecting the personal data and privacy of our beneficiaries, staff and stakeholders remains one of our highest priorities. We remain committed to transparency and accountability. We recognise the sensitivity of personal information shown on our website and we have taken measures to make sure this incident does not recur,” NSFAF said.

The organisation further stated that while there was no malicious intent or external intrusion, NSFAF regrets any damage the incident may have caused and extends its sincere apologies to beneficiaries who were affected.
