SMOOTH VOTING: The 26,400 registered voters in the Outapi constituency of the Omusati region have since early morning been flocking to the 40 fixed and mobile polling stations to elect their new constituency councillor, a process described as very smooth and without serious challenges so far. The by-election is a duel between former SWAPO councillor turned IPC candidate Fillemon Shikwambi and incumbent mayor of Outapi and SWAPO candidate Selma Asino. In 2020, SWAPO candidate Immanuel Shikongo obtained 8,682 votes compared to IPC candidate Frans Taapopi’s 1,094 votes. Voting closes at 21:00, and the results will start trickling in before midnight.
