Oil discoveries hold the promise of economic transformation — Kathindi

Placido Hilukilwa

OSHIKOTO Regional Governor Sacky Kathindi said that Namibia might be small when measured by the size of its population, but if the country’s resources are managed wisely, prosperity for all its citizens could be secured.

Kathindi spoke this morning at Omuthiya during the last in a series of regional consultation meetings on the Local Content Policy (LCP) organized by the Upstream Petroleum Unit of the Office of the President.

Kathindi said that, with the recent oil discoveries, Namibia stands at the threshold of a new era.

According to him, the oil discoveries hold the promise of economic transformation, wealth creation, and community upliftment.

He cited and supported the oft-repeated saying of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, namely that Namibians are “too few to be poor.”

Namibia is on track for oil production by the year 2029.

The consultation meetings formed part of the Office of the President’s commitment to ensuring that Namibian businesses and individuals are fully integrated into the oil and gas value chain and that local benefits are maximised.

The first engagement was held in Lüderitz on 1 September.

Today’s meeting at Omuthiya brings the regional consultative process to a close.
