DAVID van der Linden, the man linked to the disappearance of 400 cattle worth about N$7 million belonging to the Meat Corporation of Namibia (Meatco) from his private feedlot, Linden Beef Feedlot, has asked the High Court for a month-long extension to give him enough time to consult lawyers and provide valid arguments or evidence to stop the High Court from granting a final order of liquidation of his company, Linden Beef Close Corporation.
This follows van der Linden filing a notice of intention to oppose an application by Bank Windhoek to have his company liquidated for a debt of N$28.8 million it owes the bank from several loans dating back to February 2022.
Van der Linden made headlines when he was arrested in May 2025 alongside two other suspects in connection with a N$52-million dagga plantation discovered on farm Eendrag, between Hochfeld and Osire in the Khomas Region.
On the rule nisi return date, 29 August 2025, which granted van der Linden a due date to provide credible reasons to stop the closure of his business, he filed a notice to oppose an order to place his company under a final order of liquidation by High Court Judge Andrew Corbett.
Although he is represented by defence lawyer Everhardus Gous, advocate Marius Boonzaier spoke on behalf of Gous and asked that Judge Corbett extend the rule nisi date, as the legal representatives have not had an opportunity to consult with van der Linden to receive instructions, as he is currently incarcerated.
Boonzaier said that it would not be in the interest of justice for the court to ignore the fact that van der Linden, who is the sole member of Linden Beef Corporation, is incarcerated, which makes it difficult for him to give instructions.
The matter was postponed to 3 o’clock on 29 August 2025 to hear arguments from the legal counsel representing Bank Windhoek on the one-month extension requested by van der Linden’s lawyers.
