THE Kalimbeza Rice Farm in the Zambezi Region produced 108 tonnes of rice during the 2024–2025 season.
This was highlighted by the Namibian Presidency following President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s recent visit to the Kalimbeza Rice Farm, accompanied by the Zambezi Regional Governor, Dorothy Mareka Kabula, and the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, Inge Zaamwani.
“Kalimbeza Rice Farm spans 229 hectares, with 150 hectares allocated to rice production. During the 2024/25 season, 38 hectares were cultivated, yielding a harvest of 108 tons of rice,” the presidency highlighted.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah underscored the importance of meeting project deadlines to ensure agricultural initiatives such as Kalimbeza contribute meaningfully to national food security. She identified the north-eastern regions as the country’s breadbaskets, stressing that the Zambezi and Kavango regions will remain a priority under her leadership to ensure they reach their full potential in food production.
“Drawing inspiration from her recent engagement in Madagascar, where she witnessed impressive agricultural innovation, President Nandi Ndaitwah highlighted the importance of advancing innovation in agriculture to enhance food security and improve livelihoods for all Namibians,” the president added.
According to the Namibian Presidency, the President’s visit to the Zambezi Region also included discussions with the University of Namibia (UNAM) and the Indonesian Ambassador to Namibia, Mirza Nurhidayat, on strengthening cooperation between UNAM and the University of Gadjah Mada in Indonesia to expand the farm’s capacity and impact.
