KUNENE Regional Governor Vipuakuje Muharukua has launched an urgent appeal for young volunteers to assist in fighting wildfires that are currently raging in parts of the region, particularly the Khorixas Constituency.
Muharukua said that the Office of the Prime Minister has committed to supporting volunteer firefighters on a food-for-work basis.

The police in the region are also mobilising force members to help bring the raging fires under control.
Muharukua said that the Outjo, Kamanjab, and Opuwo local authority councils have also joined the firefighting effort.
He is appealing to the farming and business communities to lend a helping hand and for community leaders to mobilise their people to help contain the wildfires.
Fires are a constant phenomenon in the Kunene Region, occurring to varying degrees almost every year during the dry season.
