HYPHEN has signed a contract with China National Chemical Engineering Corporation (CNCEC) and its subsidiary CC7 for the design and construction of the ammonia production component of its green hydrogen project in southern Namibia.
Hyphen explained that the agreement covers both the front-end engineering design (FEED) and the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the ammonia production element of the project.
“The contract with CNCEC further derisks the project, thereby adding value to Namibia and all project stakeholders. The CNCEC contract represents one of several FEED and EPC contracts to be concluded for the various infrastructure components of the project. The commencement of any EPC components of the project remains subject to a successful final investment decision after the completion of the FEED,” Hyphen revealed.
The company noted that CNCEC was selected through a competitive international tendering process that placed strong emphasis on technical expertise, sustainability credentials, and alignment with Hyphen’s local content objectives.
“The project remains in its development phase, with Hyphen progressing through detailed planning, permitting, and stakeholder engagement. This milestone underscores Hyphen’s commitment to mobilizing global resources and expertise to deliver this transformative energy project in a globally competitive market,” Hyphen explained.
Giuseppe Surace, Hyphen’s Chief Operating Officer, described the partnership as a major step towards realising Hyphen’s ambition of positioning Namibia as a world leader in green hydrogen production.
“CNCEC’s exceptional design and execution capabilities and proven track record of working with international technology providers and local contractors will enable Hyphen to optimise available international technologies and meet our local content and job creation targets,” Surace added.
