NEWLY appointed Oshana Governor Hofni Iipinge said his focus is not on popularity but on fulfilling the SWAPO Party manifesto.
Iipinge made these remarks during an engagement with the SWAPO Party Executive Committee on Tuesday in Oshakati.
Acknowledging the competition for his position, Iipinge said that there are many people who want to be governors, but not all can be appointed at the same time. When one appointment comes to an end, the next appointee takes over.

He appealed for unity within the party, despite internal differences and personal dislikes.
“Let us work together in unity. I know there are so many differences ongoing within the party and those that hate me, but the goal is to love the Party and work hard for the benefit of the Namibian people,” he urged.
Iipinge affirmed his commitment to an open-door policy, stating his readiness to accommodate all inhabitants of Oshana.
He emphasised the importance of collective effort in the pursuit of a better Namibia, warning that a lack of self-love could cloud judgment.
Furthermore, Iipinge urged councillors within his region to ensure that drought relief food reaches all intended beneficiaries without politicisation.
“Drought relief food is government assistance for all people, regardless of their political affiliation, and should be distributed accordingly,” he stressed.
Iipinge also cautioned party leaders against internal conflicts, urging them instead to prioritise providing essential services to the populace.
He indicated that he would hold leaders accountable for their work and actions at all times.
Iipinge stressed the importance of love, respect, and trust among party leaders, and called for an end to the instigation of problems among people.
SWAPO Party Coordinator for Oshana, Sam Nangolo, indicated that they are pleased to be led by a youthful leader and that they are ready to work with him.
Nangolo then called for unity among the leaders within the different structures to ensure that the SWAPO Party manifesto is accomplished.
