Mulunga arrested, more arrests to follow, Noa says

Staff Reporter

IN an ironic twist, the former Managing Director of the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR), Immanuel Mulunga, has been arrested after an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission — the same institution which had cleared him of criminal intent two years ago over the payment of N$100 million which had not been approved by the NAMCOR Board.

The Director General of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Paulus Noa, has said that they are still to make more arrests in an operation which has led to the jailing of the former MD, Immanuel Mulunga.

Mulunga was arrested today at his Klein Windhoek residence this afternoon.

“The charge I am yet to confirm. He is yet to be charged. Mind you, he is not the only one — there are others. There could be around four for now; this is an ongoing operation. We don’t care, as long as someone is implicated in money laundering and corruption, we just have to round them up. We don’t care if they work for NAMCOR or not — as long as you are implicated, we will deal with you,” Noa said.

Mulunga left NAMCOR on unsavoury terms after being fingered in the fraudulent sale of oil storage facilities to NAMCOR, which allegedly already belonged to the Ministry of Defence, as well as other governance lapses such as the over-extension of credit facilities.
