President calls on regional governors to champion national unity

Staff Reporter

PRESIDENT Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has urged regional governors to promote unity within their regions, emphasising the importance of preventing division and strengthening the nation.

“I call upon you to foster unity at every level within your regions. Do not allow division to take root. When our communities are united, our country is strengthened. I implore you to promote the spirit of ‘One Namibia, One Nation’ and to pursue unity of purpose. Only through unity can we effectively tackle and resolve the pressing challenges our communities face,” the President said.

She made these remarks at the opening of the induction workshop for the regional governors of the eighth administration. The workshop followed the recent appointment of seven regional governors, replacing those whose terms of office expired earlier this week.

“Your core responsibilities as regional governors include, among others, representing the interests of the President and those of Central Government. Your conduct must at all times be above board and guided by the terms set out in your appointment letters and your Terms of Reference,” she added.

The President explained that the workshop aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the functioning and responsibilities of government, to assist in developing strategies to optimise the organisational structure for regional governors, and to cultivate a strong work ethic.

“It is not business as usual. I therefore urge you to take this induction workshop seriously, as it is aimed at equipping you with the knowledge required to deliver on the promises we have made to the Namibian people. It may be a repetition for some of you, but a refresher is part of empowerment. As you assume your responsibilities, remember my leadership vision, based on the five pillars: Pragmatism, Accountability, Integrity, Meritocracy, and Inclusivity,” the President explained.
