Thursday and Friday brought intensely cold conditions to many parts of Namibia’s interior, particularly the southern regions, which experienced sub-zero temperatures, frost, and rain.
Aus, in the //Kharas Region, was especially affected, with not only frost but also light snowfall reported on Thursday. Other interior areas also experienced extreme cold. For instance, Farm Ombuerendende in the Khomas Region recorded a low of -9°C on Friday morning, with several other locations in the Khomas Region and beyond seeing similar sub-zero temperatures.
According to the Namibia Meteorological Services, cold weather will persist over the weekend—especially during the mornings—but temperatures are not expected to be as severe as those experienced over the past two days.
For instance, Windhoek, which recorded a low of -2°C on Friday, is forecast to see minimum temperatures of 1°C on Saturday and 4°C on Sunday. Keetmanshoop, in the //Kharas Region, which dropped to -3°C on Friday, is expected to experience similar weekend lows between 1°C and 4°C.
