Cold spell spreads across country, more expected

Staff Reporter

An intense cold spell swept across most interior parts of the country today, particularly affecting the southern regions with low temperatures, frost, rain, and even light snow.

A video shared by Gondwana Collection Namibia shows light snowfall in the Klein Aus Vista area earlier today. Nabibis in the //Kharas Region saw similar conditions, while other southern areas, such as Maltahöhe and Sesriem in the Hardap Region, also experienced rainfall and frost.

According to the Namibia Meteorological Services, these cold conditions are expected to continue tomorrow, with sub-zero temperatures and widespread frost anticipated. Forecasts indicate that temperatures in Mariental and Rehoboth in the Hardap Region, as well as Aroab, Aus, Karasburg, and Keetmanshoop in the //Kharas Region, could drop to -2°C or lower.

However, the southern regions are not the only areas affected. Many central, eastern, and western interior areas are also expected to experience frosty conditions as temperatures fall to 0°C or below.

This includes Windhoek in the Khomas Region and Omaruru in the Erongo Region, both forecast to reach minimum temperatures of -2°C. In the Omaheke Region, Buitepos and Gobabis are expected to record minimum temperatures of 0°C, as is Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region.

The coast is also likely to be cold, with some areas expected to experience fog patches.
