THE Electoral Commission of Namibia has declared the winners in four of the five constituencies where by-elections were held yesterday.
SWAPO has retained its traditional strongholds of Grootfontein and Otjiwarongo in the Otjozondjupa Region and has snatched the Kamanjab constituency from the UDF.
However, the UDF managed to retain its Sesfontein stronghold, where its candidate Bernadus //Hoebeb obtained 1,368 votes, followed by Titus Rungongo (SWAPO) with 1,192 votes.

Bennie Ganuseb of the IPC and Joshua Kaisuma of the PDM obtained 585 and 162 votes, respectively.
SWAPO candidate Paulus Nekundi was declared the winner in the Otjiwarongo constituency, having obtained 3,235 votes.
The PDM’s Ernest Muraranganda came second with 810 votes, followed by Wilbardt Haiyanbo (IPC) with 764 votes and Gabriel Manase (NEFF) with 126 votes.
The ruling SWAPO Party also won in Grootfontein, where its candidate Nelao Omagulu obtained 1,918 votes.
The UDF’s Moritz Gaingob was the second-most-voted candidate with 916 votes, followed by Onesus Max (IPC) and Rosina Nunes (PDM) with 833 and 559 votes, respectively.
The results for Kamanjab are as follows: Nikodemus Amutenya (SWAPO): 1,099 votes; Jacobus Namaseb (UDF): 838 votes; and Dansieke Ganaseb (IPC): 102 votes.
The Kabbe South constituency results are still pending.
