REGISTERED voters will get up early tomorrow to go to the polls in five of the country’s 121 constituencies.
By-elections are taking place in the Kabbe South constituency of Zambezi; Grootfontein and Otjiwarongo in Otjozondjupa; and Kamanjab and Sesfontein in Kunene, where constituency councillor positions were left vacant when their occupants were sworn in as National Assembly members earlier this year.
Three of the five constituencies had SWAPO councillors, while two had UDF councillors elected during the last regional elections.
In 2020, the UDF’s Nico Somaeb won in Kamanjab with 1,116 votes, followed by SWAPO’s Nikodemus Amutenya with 919 votes, and Jaco Marais (LPM) and Gideon Iilonga (IPC) with 104 and 66 votes respectively.
The 2020 results for the other four constituencies where by-elections are taking place Tuesday were as follows:
