Nangombe advocates for gender-inclusive growth in mining sector

The Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy’s Executive Director (ED), Ben Nangombe, has called on financial institutions and the mining sector to implement tailored support systems for female entrepreneurs to ensure their active involvement in the mining industry.

“It is vital that financial institutions and the broader industry develop targeted support mechanisms for female entrepreneurs, ensuring their meaningful participation in the sector,” he said.

Nangombe made these remarks at the launch of the Women in Mining Namibia (WiMAN) mentorship and coaching programme, designed to provide mentorship opportunities for Namibian women both locally and in the diaspora. The programme also aims to support women at various stages of their careers in the mining sector — from experienced professionals and recent graduates entering the workforce to entrepreneurs striving to move into leadership roles.

Nangombe emphasised that integrating women into the mining supply chain opens avenues for empowerment and innovation.

“This is because we know that women bring unique and diverse perspectives and solutions to complex challenges, from environmental sustainability to community engagement,” the ED added.
