RAIN, frost, and rapidly declining temperatures are expected to affect parts of the country, particularly the South, starting this weekend.
According to the Namibia Meteorological Service, a cold front is expected to move into the southern regions on Saturday, with temperatures approaching 0°C. This will likely be followed by thundershowers in the South on Sunday, before temperatures drop below 0°C in some areas by Monday.
Saturday’s coldest conditions are expected in the //Kharas Region, where places such as Aus and Karasburg are likely to record temperatures as low as 3°C. However, the Namibia Meteorological Service anticipates temperatures will fall even further, with some areas experiencing sub-zero conditions by Monday.
The Namibia Meteorological Service highlighted Keetmanshoop in the //Kharas Region as one of the towns likely to experience sub-zero temperatures soon. In fact, on Monday, this southern town is expected to record a minimum temperature of -4°C, accompanied by some rain showers.
The South will not be the only part of the country affected by the cold. The Namibia Meteorological Service also predicts that Windhoek will see a temperature drop, with a minimum of 2°C expected by Monday.
The Namibia Meteorological Service advises the public, small-stock farmers, and nurseries to take necessary precautions as temperatures continue to fall and winter sets in.
