THE health directorate in the Ohangwena Region has temporarily extended the working days of various clinics due to the high prevalence of malaria in the region.
Lebeus Efraim, the Regional Chairperson of the Malaria Elimination Task Force and Councillor for the Okongo Constituency, said that a decision was taken to keep a number of clinics open over the weekends of 10–11 and 16–17 May due to the increasing number of malaria cases.
He said that more weekends could be added depending on the evolution of the situation.
Practically all seven affected clinics are located in the eastern zone of Ohangwena, namely Omauni, Olukula, Omboloka, Oshikunde, Omundaungilo, Epinga, and Hamukoto waKapa.
An upsurge in cases has been reported in the malaria-prone regions of Namibia since the beginning of the year.
