A case of housebreaking is being investigated by the police in the Oshana Region after unknown suspects stole items worth over N$40,600 from a house in Oshakati.
Oshana Crime Investigation Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Frederick Ndjadila, said the incident occurred between Sunday and Monday at an unknown time in Oshakati.
The incident was reported by a 71-year-old man.
According to Ndjadila, preliminary investigations indicate that the property had been left unattended for approximately one day, and evidence suggests it may be vacant.
“It is alleged that unknown suspects gained entry into the house by breaking the burglar door of the kitchen door with an unknown object,” he said.
He added that the alleged suspects stole one Defy electric stove, two Mibea full-set air conditioning systems, one gate motor, one alarm transmitter, one burglar door, and other items, with a total value of N$40,600.
“The alleged suspects unmounted the properties from the walls as well as the gate because they were installed and working properly prior to the break-in,” he added.
Adding to the concern, the house’s alarm system was triggered during the break-in. Oshana Security Services was alerted but reportedly did not respond to the scene.
Instead, they informed the complainant that the alarm was likely activated by an electricity blackout in the area.
“The alarm went off, and Oshana Security Services was informed, but they did not attend to the alarm. Instead, they informed the complainant that the alarm went off due to the electricity blackout in the area,” Ndjadila confirmed.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.
