South African anglers arrested in Kunene

Staff Reporter

FIVE South African anglers and two local collaborators have been arrested in the Kunene Region accused of illegal fishing at Terrace Bay.

Chief Inspector Vehangaiza Hindjou, the head of the police’s public affairs subdivision in the Kunene Region, confirmed the incident but could not provide more details, such as their ages, gender, exact places of origin, or when they are expected to appear in court.

The two local suspects allegedly facilitated the illegal fishing activities that are said to be widespread in Namibia’s coastal towns.

The South Africans were caught for allegedly contravening fisheries laws by catching and transporting more fish than is legally permitted. They are being held in police cells at Khorixas.
