HIS Majesty King Charles III has extended his condolences to the Nujoma family and the people of Namibia following the passing of Founding President, Dr Sam Nujoma.
“My wife and I were profoundly saddened to learn of the death of former President Sam Nujoma,” he said in a statement released by Buckingham Palace.
King Charles III emphasised that the late President Nujoma’s contributions to history were immense, as he led Namibia’s long struggle for independence and served as the Founding President of Namibia for 15 years.
“I recall with particular gratitude how much Her late Majesty The Queen enjoyed her state visit to Namibia in 1991, hosted graciously by President Nujoma. His lifelong commitment to freedom and democracy, overcoming so much adversity on that journey, was truly inspirational,” he said.
King Charles III emphasised that Namibia’s continued commitment to the values of peace and democracy as a member of the Commonwealth of Nations is a testament to the enduring legacy of the country’s Founding President.
“Our deepest sympathy and prayers are with the former First Lady, Kovambo Nujoma, their family and the people of the Republic of Namibia at this dreadfully sad time,” King Charles III added.
