Widespread showers expected this week, Northern and Otjozondjupa regions to be most affected

Staff Reporter

In contrast to the past weekend, when most areas saw little to no rainfall, this week is expected to bring widespread showers to several regions in the country.

According to Namibia Meteorological Services, the north-central and north-western parts of the country, as well as some areas in the Otjozondjupa Region, are likely to experience thunderstorms this week.

These will not be the only regions to see rainfall this week, but the anticipated showers in these areas are expected to be quite heavy, increasing the risk of flash floods. People in the north-central, north-western, and Otjozondjupa regions are therefore strongly urged to be vigilant and cautious.

The rainfall this week may not start off as widespread, but Namibia Meteorological Services predicts that showers will become more extensive as the week progresses. On Tuesday, rainfall is expected to be primarily concentrated in the Omusati, Oshikoto, and Otjozondjupa regions, but it is likely to gradually extend to the Kunene and even Khomas regions later in the week.

Consistent rainfall is, however, still on the horizon for various places in the country – and not only limited to the aforementioned regions. In fact, Namibia Meteorological Services has highlighted several places from north to south that are likely to experience rainfall on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. These include Rundu, Ondangwa, Windhoek, and Keetmanshoop.
