Two lions were spotted this morning—one between Tsumeb and Oshivelo and another at Oromowa, on the western edge of Etosha National Park.
This was confirmed by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism’s Public Relations Officer, Romeo Muyunda, who urged communities in or near these areas to remain cautious.
Muyunda revealed that the lion spotted between Tsumeb and Oshivelo is a female, believed to be part of a pride consisting of two adults and four cubs at Onguma Farm. He disclosed that ministry staff tracked the lion to Punyu Farm and are monitoring it in a commercial farming area.
“We encourage farmers in the area to be cautious and safeguard themselves and their livestock while the officials continue to track the lion and ensure its safe return to Onguma. In the same vein, communities in close proximity to these farms are also urged to be cautious and report any sighting to the Ministry,” Muyunda said.
He further revealed that the other lion, spotted at Oromowa, is suspected to have escaped from Etosha National Park, but assured that ministry staff are also tracking this lion. He further urged communities in those areas to remain vigilant and ensure livestock are protected.
“Fortunately, in all the reports received, no livestock losses, damages or attacks on humans were reported,” Muyunda added.
