Suspected fuel smuggler arrested at Ondangwa

Staff Reporter

THE Namibian Police in the Oshana Region have apprehended a 32-year-old woman who was allegedly found in possession of 125 litres of illicit fuel, thereby contravening the Petroleum Products and Energy Act, Act 13 of 1990.

According to the police, the suspect was a passenger in a silver Toyota Wish (N29205SH), which was intercepted and searched in Ondangwa’s Uuye-Wakapoko location. During the search, the police discovered five fuel containers of 25 litres each. The value of the fuel is estimated at N$2,500.

The suspect was promptly arrested, and all five containers along with their contents were booked as exhibits.

The smuggling of cheap Angolan fuel persists in the northern regions despite police efforts to curb this type of cross-border crime, which negatively affects the local energy sector.
