THE Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater) has announced significant improvements in dam levels across Namibia, following much-needed rainfall over the past few days.
According to the Weekly Dam Bulletin dated 6th January 2025, positive inflows have been recorded in key dams, boosting water security for households, agriculture, and industries. Swakoppoort Dam increased from 15.9% to 24.4% of full capacity, Von Bach Dam increased from 10.7% to 23.5%, and Omatako Dam increased from 0.0% to 2.4%.
In addition, the Hardap Dam increased from 5.5% to 14.8%, receiving the highest positive flow of twenty-seven million, four hundred and nineteen thousand cubic meters (27.419 million cubic meters). Neckartal Dam increased from 76.8% to 77.8%. Collectively, the recent rains have added 49.605 million cubic meters (Mm³) of water, marking a significant step towards improved water availability.
NamWater spokesperson Lot Ndamanomhata said that while Namibians celebrate this positive development, NamWater is mindful of the challenges faced by communities affected by flash floods.
“Our thoughts are with all those whose households, properties, and livelihoods have been impacted. We stand in solidarity with you during this difficult time,” he concluded.
