THE southern parts of the country, which were among the most recent to receive rain this rainfall season, have recently experienced abundant downpours, transforming previously dry riverbeds into overflowing streams.
The Fish River and Tsauchab River are among those revitalised by the recent rains in the South.
Many southern residents have shared videos and photos of these rivers, expressing excitement about the possibility of the Fish River contributing to the filling of the Hardap Dam, which had reached its lowest level by the end of last year.
A video shared with Informanté shows the Tsauchab River in the Hardap Region overflowing this morning, rendering the tarred road to Sossusvlei inaccessible for motorists.
Farmers in the South have also celebrated the heavy rainfall, with some reporting nearly overflowing rain gauges as the week ends. Farm Swalani, located between Kalkrand and Maltahöhe, recorded approximately 70mm of rain recently.
The South is not the only area to receive significant rainfall. The Khomas Region experienced heavy showers, resulting in property damage in parts of Windhoek, where floodwaters swept away cars and flooding homes.
Khomas Region’s recent rain also revitalised rivers such as the Schaap River in the Dordabis District.
Elsewhere, rivers in the Otjozondjupa and Erongo regions, including the Okahandja River, Ugab River, and Swakop River, have also been replenished. Some areas in the Otjozondjupa Region, such as Kalkfeld, recorded over 80mm of rain recently.
Namibians’ appreciation for the rainfall is captured in a video shared with Informanté, showing a flowing river and the recorder’s heartfelt reaction: “Each and every river, big or small, has been flowing like this. This is between Okahandja and Karibib. We are so excited. We are crying. This is amazing.”
