Rain showers mark end of 2024

Staff Reporter

RAIN showers and stormy weather swept across many parts of the country, particularly in the north, as 2024 drew to a close.

Photos and videos of the downpours flooded social media, with Namibians celebrating the much-needed rain in areas such as Tsumeb in the Oshikoto Region, Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region, Ongwediva in the Oshana Region, and even Hochfeld in the Otjozondjupa Region.

While not all areas ended the year with rainfall, there is still reason for optimism. Namibia Meteorological Services has predicted that the first week of 2025 will bring rain to various parts of the country. Windhoek in the Khomas Region, Keetmanshoop in the //Kharas Region, and Walvis Bay in the Erongo Region have been highlighted as some of the places likely to see showers between today and Saturday.

The north, however, will remain the focal point of the heaviest storms this week. Namibia Meteorological Services has warned that flash floods are likely to occur in some northern areas, and the public is therefore advised to remain cautious.
