OSHAKATI Mayor Leonard Hango has emphasized that infrastructure is the backbone of development in any locality.
Hango made these remarks during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a gravity sewer network and water reticulation system for Oshakati North Extension 12 and Portion Extension 01, as well as the upgrading of roads in NATIS, Extension 3 (NHE), to bitumen standard under Phase 01 on Monday.
According to Hango, these projects will be completed at a total cost of N$10.5 million. Among them, the construction of the gravity sewer network and water reticulation system for Oshakati North Extension 12 and Portion Extension 01 will cost N$5.2 million. The appointed contractor for this project is S. Shikongo Construction and Renovations CC, represented by Mr. Petrus Shikongo, while the consulting engineers overseeing the project are Windhoek Consulting Engineers.
Hango explained that the area to be serviced, Extension 12 Oshakati North (Ehenye), will include 221 residential plots, 10 general residential plots, nine local business plots, six urban agricultural plots, three institutional plots, two public open spaces, and one plot designated for parking adjacent to the business plots.
Meanwhile, the upgrading of NATIS, Extension 3 (NHE) roads to bitumen standard, Phase 01, is estimated to cost N$5.3 million. The contractor for this project is Sash Trading & Earth Works CC, represented by Abraham Shaanika, with Lithon Project Consultants, represented by Mr. Cilliers Steyn, overseeing the work. This road construction project includes upgrading roads to bitumen standard, as well as the addition of paved sidewalks and stormwater infrastructure.
Hango highlighted that these projects will empower the community to thrive in unprecedented ways. Improved services, better mobility, and economic stimulation are just some of the benefits expected.
He added that these initiatives are part of a broader strategic plan by the Council to build a sustainable and prosperous Oshakati. By investing in water, sanitation, and roads, Oshakati is addressing key challenges and laying the groundwork for long-term growth and resilience.
Hango urged every resident of Oshakati to support and embrace these developments, take pride in the progress, and commit to maintaining and safeguarding the infrastructure for future generations.
