THE Ongwediva Town Council has issued a notice of its intention to auction approximately 100 pigs that have been impounded since 2022.
Of the 100 pigs, 29 are large, 17 medium, 46 small, and 8 are piglets.
The auction will take place on Wednesday at the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair Kraals, starting at 9:00. Registration begins at 08:00, with a non-refundable fee of N$200.

Town spokesperson Ottilie Shingenge said that the auction is being conducted in accordance with general pounding regulations.
“The pigs were impounded by the council since 2022 and were not redeemed or reclaimed by their owners,” she said.
Shingenge added that the owners of the impounded animals are unknown, and efforts to identify them have been unsuccessful.
She explained that the auction follows a decision by the town’s councilors to seek permission from the court to sell the impounded animals, as per standard procedure.
