President Nangolo Mbumba expressed his appreciation for the African Union (AU) Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) visit to Namibia and their commitment to fostering democracy.

“We should fight for democracy. Whoever is going to lead us should lead us in peace, not in chaos,” he said.

He made these remarks during a courtesy call with the AUEOM, which was deployed to Namibia on 21 November 2024 at the invitation of the Government of Namibia and the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN). The mission aims to support Namibia’s electoral processes.

Its primary objective is to assess the technical compliance of the 2024 General Election with relevant AU instruments. The AU observers congratulated Namibia on its efforts to maintain peace and contribute to the progress of African democracy, even under challenging conditions.

The delegation was led by the Head of Mission, H.E. Dr Speciosa Wandira-Kazibwe, the former Vice President of the Republic of Uganda. She commended Namibia’s progress, highlighting the country’s peaceful environment and strong representation of women.

“We are here to give support and to learn. Whatever we say, we say it in good faith. Our goal is to encourage, uphold African norms, and work together to advance democracy across the continent,” she said.
