THE Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater) has announced to residents and businesses of Walvis Bay that the town will experience planned water interruptions from 12th to 14th November 2024.
“The water interruption was planned for 5th to 7th November 2024, but was changed due to severe winds in the Kuiseb area, which significantly impacted reservoir levels. Following a meeting with the contractor and project team, it was decided to postpone the work for one week. The interruption is essential to complete the final stages of the Collector 2-Collector 1 pipeline replacement project, a critical upgrade to improve long-term water supply reliability in the region,” Lot Ndamanomhata, Public Relations Officer at NamWater, said.
He added that during this period, there will be restricted water flows due to essential connections on the Fehlmann N and E supply lines.
“Water from the Swartbank source will be limited, though NamWater will attempt to increase flows from Dorop South. However, some limitations may still occur. NamWater and the contractor are working diligently to minimise the duration of the interruption and aim to finish ahead of schedule if possible. Efforts are being made to fill the Mile 7 and Schwarzekuppe reservoirs to reduce the impact of supply restriction. Residents are urged to conserve water during this period to maintain adequate supply levels,” Ndamanomhata said.
