THE 30 houses being constructed by the National Housing Enterprise (NHE) are about 80% complete and are expected to be allocated to their owners by December.
The construction, which began in May this year and is set to be completed by December, has created employment for about 70 people.
The work is being done by Gonaleni Investment CC at a cost of N$6.5 million.
Manager of Corporate Communications and Marketing, Mutonga Matali, told the media on Friday during a tour in Omuthiya that they expect to complete the 30 houses in Omuthiya’s Extension 5.
According to Matali, the houses are more affordable as the institution has adopted the ISUP design, which is currently being piloted and implemented in Windhoek and now used for the Omuthiya project.
“The ISUP concept has been very successful in Windhoek, resulting in the development of more than 750 housing units since 2020,” he said.
He added that NHE is making progress and has reformed many of its processes to align with its policies. This ensures quality is maintained even as construction progresses quickly.
Matali said that NHE often calls on local authorities to help meet them halfway in housing delivery, as housing needs can only be addressed if all stakeholders come on board.
“We need more affordable serviced land; the more expensive the land, the more expensive the house. Without access to affordable land, our work becomes challenging,” he added.
Moreover, Matali said that once the current projects are completed, they will move to Oshakati, where they will construct 50 houses, 50 in Otavi, and 100 in Eenhana. However, in Eenhana, they will develop the land in phases based on demand.
Further, he indicated that they have completed 24 houses in Ondangwa, 80 in Omuthiya, 70 in Okahao, 81 in Outapi, and 35 houses in Tsandi over the last two years.
