Soup kitchen brings hope to the North

SHOPRITE Soup Kitchen is feeding the hungry in the northern part of the country through the Act of Change initiative.

The campaign, which started last year in Oshakati, provides cups of soup to people in the Oshana, Ohangwena, Oshikoto, and Omusati regions.

Soup kitchen assistant Ndilimeke Fernandu said that since the beginning of the soup kitchen program, they have distributed thousands of cups of soup across the northern part of the country.

Fernandu indicated that the soup is distributed in areas where Shoprite outlets are located, at schools without hostels, and in various communities.

She said the soup is distributed every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

“We feed the nation as part of our social responsibility. You can see how people line up in huge numbers wanting a cup of soup, and at times, the demand cannot be met,” she said.

She added that they feed 500 people a day during their weekly initiative, and by the time they close, more people arrive wanting soup.

Fernandu stressed that when the soup is completely finished, they have no choice but to send people away, although they hope to feed more people each day.
