THE Speaker of the National Assembly, Peter Katjavivi, has hailed Cuba as a vital ally to Namibia, especially during the liberation struggle and in developing crucial sectors such as education and healthcare.
Katjavivi is leading a multiparty parliamentary delegation on a week-long visit to Cuba, invited by the president of the Caribbean nation’s parliament, Juan Esteban Lazo Hernández.
The Namibian delegation includes Parliamentarians Gotthard Kasuto, Jennifer Van den Heever, and Joseph Kauandenge, as well as members of the Cuba-Namibia Parliamentary Friendship Group.
Upon arrival in Cuba, Katjavivi was received by the Vice President of Cuba’s National Assembly of the People’s Power, Ana María Mari Machado.
During the visit, Katjavivi will hold formal discussions with his Cuban counterpart, Lazo Hernández, and other key Cuban parliamentary leaders. The Speaker is also scheduled to visit the University of Havana, reaffirming the shared commitment to knowledge exchange, and meet with Namibian students currently studying in Cuba.
The visit, which lasts from 20 to 26 October, aims to deepen legislative collaboration with a focus on education, healthcare, and parliamentary diplomacy.
“This visit will strengthen our solidarity and open avenues for increased cooperation in areas of mutual interest,” said Katjavivi.
