THE speedy response of a police officer near the Brandberg Mountain, Uis, in the Erongo Region led to the arrest of two suspects, aged 33 and 38, who broke into the car of a 25-year-old German tourist and stole electronic equipment.

According to Chief Inspector Ileni Shapumba of the Erongo police, the theft from a motor vehicle occurred on Wednesday, 16 October 2024, at about 02:00 at Brandberg Rest Camp, Uis.

“It is alleged that the suspects smashed the passenger’s window of the vehicle and took property without the owner’s consent,” Shapumba said.

He added that one of the police officers deployed in the area responded to an alarm from the vehicle near the Brandberg Rest Camp.

“In the process, he observed three men running past his house. He fired a warning shot, but the suspects fell and then ran away. At the spot where they fell, a power bank, a small black bag, and a camera charger were found. Other officers followed their tracks throughout the night. Two suspects were arrested, and one remains at large,” Shapumba said.

Recovered items include 2x Canon cameras, 6x different lenses, 1x Apple MacBook Pro (2018), 2x backpacks, 1x camera bag, 2x passports, 2x power banks, 2x power adaptors, 1x knee brace, 2x German vaccination passes, 2x card games and 1x international driving license.

The stolen items are valued at N$164,387.

“We commend our officers and congratulate them for a job well done,” Shapumba said.
