A 30-YEAR-OLD man was arrested for allegedly raping a 17-year-old mentally challenged girl on Monday.
Oshikoto Regional Commander, Commissioner Teopolina Kalompo-Nashikaku, said the incident occurred on Monday evening at Elavi A Village in the Nehale Lyampingana Constituency.
According to Kalompo-Nashikaku, the suspect was allegedly found in the room by the victim’s guardian at the time of the incident.
“It is alleged that the victim went to sleep earlier than the guardian in her sleeping hut. After some time, the complainant went to check on the victim as usual. Unexpectedly and surprisingly, when she lit up the torch, she found the suspect in the victim’s bed, both naked,” she said.
She added that the matter was reported by the victim’s 42-year-old guardian.
Kalompo-Nashikaku indicated that the suspect, who was employed as a domestic worker at a neighbouring house, is expected to make his first appearance in the Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
