The two victims of the Henning Crusher shooting incident, who were allegedly shot by a 59-year-old man, have been identified as John Myburgh (43) and Johana Richter (44).

Oshana Regional Commander, Commissioner Naftal Lungameni Sakaria, said that the two victims were employed as Production and Mechanical Managers at Henning Crusher in Ondangwa.

According to Sakaria, the incident occurred on Friday afternoon, and cases of murder, attempted murder, and robbery with aggravating circumstances have been opened against the suspect.

“The suspect was transferred from Tsumeb Henning Crusher to Ondangwa Henning Crusher in 2020 due to alleged misconduct in the workplace. He allegedly continued to commit further misconduct at Henning Crusher Ondangwa on many occasions and was due to sign a final warning; he was subsequently dismissed on Friday,” he said.

He added that the suspect was called to the office around the time of the incident to sign his dismissal documents, but he refused and then exited the office.

Sakaria said that after a few minutes, the suspect allegedly returned to the office with a pistol in his hand and fired the first shot at the deceased, followed by a second shot at the second victim.

He revealed that Myburgh was shot dead on the spot, while Richter was rushed to Ondangwa Private Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit due to a gunshot wound to the head.

His condition appears to be critical.

“The suspect took the deceased’s bicycle and rode it to the Ondangwa Police Station, reported the incident, and handed himself over. The suspect was subsequently arrested and detained at Ondangwa Police Station,” Sakaria added.

He confirmed that the pistol, a 7.65mm calibre with an empty magazine, was seized from the suspect.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
