Councillor Ndjuluwa encourages people to care for the poor

THE councillor of the Ondobe Constituency in the Ohangwena Region, Helaria Ndjuluwa, expressed disapproval of “the new trend” of caring more for the dead while neglecting the living.

She said there are people living in poverty with no one offering them assistance, but when they die, their relatives and acquaintances readily collect large sums of money for their funerals.

She emphasised that she was not discouraging mutual assistance during bereavement, which she said is very important.

On the contrary, she highlighted the importance of caring for the impoverished members of the community.

Ndjuluwa was speaking during the memorial service of the late Job Hashondatya Sakaria, a resident of Omhedi-yaSalom village, who passed away last week at the age of 83.

Speaking at the same event, Swapo’s Ondobe district coordinator, Victoria Hailapata, said that the late Sakaria was one of the unwavering members of the ruling party since the days of the liberation struggle.

“He was a trusted adviser and a dedicated mobiliser who never gave up, regardless of the challenges during the bitter struggle. For today’s youth, he is an example to emulate,” said Hailapata.

The late Sakaria was laid to rest at his home village on Thursday.
