THE Sports Commission of Namibia is expected to announce Team Namibia on Saturday during the National Youth Games, which are being held in Oshakati, Oshana Region.
Sports Commission Chief Administrator Freddy Mwiya said that the team must be finalized by the 18th of this month. Missing the deadline will result in a fine.
According to Mwiya, the team will represent the country at the Regional 5 Youth Games, which will be hosted in Namibia next year in June.
The Region 5 Youth Games, drawing participants from all ten member countries alongside non-Region 5 SADC member countries, serve as a vital platform for nurturing sporting talent and fostering camaraderie across borders.
Minister of Sports, Youth, and National Service Agnes Tjongarero said that these games are not just a sports event—they are a stepping stone toward the selection of the national teams for the AUSC Region 5 Games, which Namibia will proudly host in 2025.
“My plea to the team selectors is to ensure that transparency and fairness prevail,” she said.
Tjongarero emphasized that every Namibian child must have an equal opportunity to represent their nation, purely based on merit.
