OSHANA Governor Elia Irimari said that the National Youth Games not only represent an important opportunity for young athletes to compete and excel, but they also bring significant economic benefits to the region.
Irimari made these remarks in a statement read on his behalf during the official opening of the 3rd edition of the National Youth Games on Thursday in Oshakati.
According to Irimari, the influx of visitors, participants, and officials helps stimulate local businesses, create jobs, and enhance the overall economic vitality of the community.
“Our locals will be able to generate income during this period of the games, which will help grow our economy,” he said.
Additionally, Irimari said that the aim of these games is to encourage young sportsmen and sportswomen to develop their skills, enabling them to represent Namibia both locally and internationally.
He added that it is also a unique opportunity for the youth from all 14 regions of the nation to come together, learn from one another, and foster a spirit of unity and nationhood.
Meanwhile, Minister of Sports, Youth, and National Service Agnes Tjongarero said that with over 2,100 participants and 600 officials, this third edition of the Namibia Youth Games not only brings together the nation’s sporting talents but also delivers significant economic benefits to the Oshana Region.
