Street parade in honour of Namibian Paralympic athletes set for Thursday

A STREET parade in honour of the athletes who represented Namibia at the Paris Paralympic Games will take place in Windhoek on Thursday, 12 September 2024.

This was announced by the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service, which explained that the parade is intended to welcome the Paralympic athletes back to Namibia following their exceptional performance at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.


“Notably, Lahja Ishitile, along with her guide Sem Shimanda, secured a gold medal in the 400m T11 and a bronze medal in the 200m T11 events. Team Namibia will arrive at Hosea Kutako International Airport on Wednesday, 11 September 2024, at 20:30. The athletes will be officially welcomed by Hon. Dr Emma Kantema-Gaomas, Deputy Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service,” the Sports Ministry added.

The street parade will be held on Thursday from 10:00 to 13:00, starting at Snyman Circle and ending at Soweto Market, with the procession travelling along Independence Avenue. The public is invited to join the celebration.

The Sports Ministry explained that Thursday’s parade is being coordinated by the Office of the President, Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Namibian Police, City of Windhoek, Namibia Sport Commission, Namibia Airports Company, and NAMPOWER Foundation, in partnership with the Nationhood and National Pride Programme.
