CABINET, in its most recent decisions, has endorsed the outcome of the Vulnerability Assessment and Analysis Integrated Food Security Phase Classification Acute Food Insecurity Communications Report for the 2024/25 financial year.

The highest decision-making body of government said that some of the report’s outcomes indicate that the 2024 Crop Prospects, Food Security, and Drought Situation Assessment Report showed that the aggregate cereal production statistics for the 2023/2024 financial year recorded 64,600 metric tonnes, compared to 153,000 metric tonnes harvested in the 2022/2023 cropping season.

Cabinet said that this represents a significant decline of 58%.

It was also said that the livestock body condition ranges between good and poor in most parts of the country and is anticipated to deteriorate further by October 2024. Additionally, the country’s dam levels stood at 53.5% as of 8 July 2024, compared to 66.2% during the same period last year.
