JUST IN: Florian Beukes, the lawyer representing the former minister of fisheries and marine resources Bernard Esau who is currently incarcerated after being implicated in the country’s largest fisheries corruption, fraud and money laundering trial has said that he will cease to represent Bernard Esau in the main criminal trial of fishrot. He added that whilst Esau was granted N$3.4 million from his restrained assets by the High Court on 10 July 2024, the Prosecutor General has appealed to the Supreme Court to overturn the high courts decision. Beukes added that pending the outcome of the Supreme Court, he will withdraw from representing Esau in the main trial, until he will be assured that he would be paid his legal fees which he said is in high arears as he has been representing the former fisheries minister for three years without payment.
