A 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 33-year-old man who subsequently bought her a smartphone.
The incident occurred at Oshinyadhila No. 2 village in the Oshana Region.
Oshana Crime Investigation Coordinator Fredrick Ndjadila said the incident took place at an unknown date and time in May 2024.
“It is alleged that the victim’s mother saw her daughter with a smartphone and asked her where she got it. Upon questioning, the victim revealed that the smartphone was given to her by the suspect,” he said.
He added that the victim further indicated the suspect would take her to his house at Oshinyadhila village, where he would remove her clothes and have sex with her.
Ndjadila said that the matter was only recently reported to the police by the victim’s 35-year-old mother.
Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
