THE Ministry of Sport, Youth, and National Service has acknowledged Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s concerns and the public’s frustration with the current state of the national stadium.
Last week, Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed her disappointment with Sports Minister Agnes Tjongarero for failing to follow through on the promise that renovations to Windhoek’s Independence Stadium would begin on 28 August with the appointment of a contractor.
She said that she had been informed everything was on track, only to find out that no action had been taken. She emphasized that someone would be held accountable, as the public cannot continue to be misled.
However, in a statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry indicated that it is diligently working to finalize the appointment of a lead consultant. The process has been delayed by the strict requirements of the Public Procurement Act of 2015 and the need for stakeholder consultations.
The Ministry assured the public that it will continue to provide updates on the progress until the process is completed.
