THE Oshikoto Governor, Penda ya Ndakolo, said that the Ondonga Traditional Authority was issued 133 customary land rights certificates for further distribution to applicants, with another 1,416 certificates expected to be issued during the first quarter of the 2024/2025 financial year.

Ya Ndakolo revealed this during his State of the Region Address (SORA) on Friday, noting that an additional 903 customary land rights certificates were issued in liaison with the Ondonga Traditional Authority in an effort to reduce the turnaround time for certificate distribution.

“Seven rights of leasehold were recommended to the Minister for approval. A total of 23 occupational land rights were also recommended to the Minister for approval and are expected to be ratified soon,” he said.

He added that this will be the first registration of occupational land rights in the region since the inception of the registration programme, mostly from the education sector.

Further, Ya Ndakolo indicated that the government continues to prioritise assistance to marginalised communities.

He explained that the ongoing distribution of supplementary food to marginalised communities in all eleven constituencies includes maize meal, sunflower cooking oil, tinned beef, salt, soya, beans, and instant porridge.

Moreover, he said that a human rights awareness campaign for marginalised communities was held to educate them about their rights to education, health, acquiring national documents, registering for social grants, farm settlements, and other benefits available to all citizens.

Additionally, funeral assistance was provided to 43 marginalised community members who could not afford burial costs for their relatives.

During the same period, a total of 100 precast toilets were constructed in 10 constituencies, translating to 10 toilets per constituency.

Furthermore, he said that 90 beneficiaries will receive precast underground toilet materials at Omatope village in Nehale Lya Mpingana under the Rural Sanitation Programme and Community-Led Total Sanitation.
