A FEMALE resident of Mondesa in Swakopmund has registered cases of assault by threatening and defamation of character at the Ongwediva Police Station in the Oshana Region following confrontations that erupted after the burial of her deceased boyfriend, who was laid to rest in Oupumako village near Ongwediva on Saturday.
It is alleged that the complainant, aged 34, attended the funeral of her boyfriend, who committed suicide in Walvis Bay earlier this month.
According to the police, a group of the deceased’s relatives and other burial attendees stormed into the tent where the complainant and her friends were sleeping. They uttered death threats and threatened to attack and stab her with pieces of broken bottles if she did not tell them what really caused their relative’s death. “They further threatened to kill her children and accused her of fighting for the deceased’s property. They also accused her of having switched off the deceased’s cellphone after she killed him,” said the police.
It is further alleged that the suspects threatened the complainant, stating that she and her children would die the same way the deceased died.
The suspects allegedly blocked the gate, but the complainant managed to call the police.
“The police intervened, but even in the presence of the police, the suspects continued to threaten the complainant and her friends, who had accompanied her from Swakopmund to attend the funeral.”
The ten arrested suspects — one male and nine females — are aged between 18 and 55 and are detained at the Ongwediva and Ondangwa Police Stations.
